telehealth services

Telehealth or Telemedicine

Telehealth, sometimes called telemedicine, virtual, remote or online healthcare, allows your doctor to care for you without an in person visit.  Connecting with your doctor through digital healthcare is a great way to communicate without leaving the comfort of your own home. Please keep in mind that an in person exam is optimal for formulating a correct diagnosis.

Telehealth is done primarily online with internet access on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Is Telehealth right for you?

Telehealthcare may be the ideal solution for you if you:

  • Live in a remote or rural location
  • Have no access to specialists within your area
  • Are housebound or unable to travel
  • Have health conditions that require you to isolate
  • Are unable to take time off from work

Transforming Neurosurgical Care: Telehealth for Brain, Spine, and Carpal Tunnel Surgeries

Patients in remote communities, where the availability of specialized healthcare services may be scarce, can now receive the same level of care as those in urban centers. This is particularly crucial in the field of neurosurgery, where timely interventions can significantly impact patient outcomes.

Preoperative assessments, postoperative follow-ups, and even surgical consultations can now be conducted remotely, Additionally, telehealth services allow for collaborative discussions among medical teams and enables real-time sharing of medical images and data. This technology-driven approach enhances patient-centered care, minimizes travel burdens, and optimizes treatment outcomes.

How It Works: Telehealth for Neurosurgical Procedures:

How we use technology to help you

  • Advanced technologies like video calls, virtual checkups, and remote tracking are changing  patient care.  With video calls, patients can talk to doctors no matter where they are. Virtual checkups let doctors assess your progress through a computer, tablet or smartphone.  These tech tools make sure everyone gets the care they need, no matter where they live.

What Should I do if my internet connection is poor?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we saw a great expansion in the need for and use of telehealth. State wide and national taskforces have been created to close the gap in internet connectivity in remote or rural areas.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes a $65 billion investment to ensure all Americans can access affordable, reliable, and high-speed internet. To read more about funding and programs to make telehealth accessible please read Internet for All.

Benefits of Telehealth in Neurosurgery:

Breaking Down Geographical Barriers

  • Telehealthcare eliminates the need for patients to travel long distances to receive medical attention. Instead of enduring arduous journeys to urban hospitals, individuals can access consultations, diagnoses, and even surgical evaluations from the comfort of their homes. This not only saves time and money but also enhances accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges or those living in areas with limited transportation options.

Efficient and Timely Care

  • Telemedicine expedites the delivery of medical care by streamlining the process of consultations and follow-ups. Patients no longer have to wait weeks or months for an appointment. With telehealth, appointments can be scheduled sooner, allowing for faster interventions and reducing the risk of health conditions worsening over time. This is particularly vital in neurosurgery, where early diagnosis and intervention are often critical.

Personalized Consultations

  • Telehealth appointments allow for highly personalized interactions between patients and healthcare providers. Through video conferencing and virtual consultations, patients can engage directly with their doctors. This personalized approach ensures that patients receive individualized treatment plans tailored to their unique medical needs.

Remote Monitoring and Follow-Up

  • Beyond consultations and surgeries, virtual telehealth extends its benefits to post-operative care. Remote monitoring tools enable neurosurgeons to track patients’ progress, detect potential complications, and adjust treatment plans as needed. This proactive approach to follow-up care enhances patient recovery and reduces the need for frequent in-person visits, further contributing to convenience and improved outcomes.

Dr. Ghaly's Commitment to his patients' Care

Dr. Ghaly is a board certified spine, brain and carpal-tunnel neurosurgeon. The doctor has won numerous awards and citations for his services to his patients.

This is a doctor that listens to his patients. I had piercing pain on the top of my head. I was told that is was a migraine. I know the difference between a migraine and the stabbing pain that was on the top of my head. Dr Ghaly was very thorough in asking about my history and listening to my description of my pain. I had some tests done and it was decided that I needed surgery. He removed the tumor that put pressure on my nerve. I am now pain-free and can live a "normal" life.
